One important mission of this year’s Annual National Technical Symposium (ANTS) Host Company, PIMES, was to establish a stronger link between the industry and academe. This was realized through the Mobot Races on the second day of ANTS. A Mobot Race is a head to head match against time between two Mobile Robots (Mobots). The Mobots are actually toy cars that were modified to run along a specific path that was pre-programmed to its EEPROM. The speed, accuracy and capability of the Mobots to stay on track reflected the programming skills of the students. The Mobot will be off-track if it cannot detect the specified path with black line where it was programmed to follow.
The Mobot Race, which is actually part of a series of regional races throughout the country, was participated in by different schools in the country namely UP Diliman, Adamson, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Asian Pacific College, University of Baguio, St. Louie University and Colegio de Dagupan. This special event was organized and sponsored by Zilog and IEEE with Mr. Jess Felipe of Zilog and Dr. Louie Sison of UP Diliman as organizing chairmen.
It was indeed an exciting event witnessed by no less than the SEIPI BODs themselves. Mr. Jess Felipe of Zilog was very grateful that the students were given the opportunity to showcase their technical skills and talents and was actually held during a National Technical Symposium. In the end, Mr. Tristan N. Laguador of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila was declared as the winner of this exciting event.
